An online platform to promote social-emotional well-being for students in sixth through eighth grades.

Helping children develop into emotionally healthy young adults

FUSE is an interactive augmented reality game and associated curriculum that immerses middle school students in activities designed to build relationship skills, empathy, and responsible decision-making.

How It Works:

  1. Students participate in Designathons, STEAM days where they imagine and develop stories and program them for use in the game.

  2. Students work in teams playing the selected scenario that requires empathy, perspective-taking, conflict reslution and other important social emotional skills to win.

  3. Facilitator uses administrative portal to set up the gaming environment by selecting a scenario and placing virtual characters around the school, classroom, or other environments.

  4. Facilitators reflect with students about their experiences playing the game. They can also review students choices and development each time a new scenario is played.

More than two decades of research has shown that SEL programs can address the challenges that lead to bullying, conflicts, and even violence by building social awareness and fostering relationship skills, as well as showing an 11% increase in academic performance.

Implementation

We work directly with schools to tailor their FUSE stories through designathons, which are STE(A)M days where students imagine, design and code their own projects to support their peers in developing these important skills. Key features of FUSE includes:

  • Culturally-relevant, user-generated scenarios content that evolves with users

  • Cross-platform, multiplayer access

  • Customizable gaming “arena” (i.e., area where students play)

  • Plug-and-play implementation for teachers/facilitators

  • Ongoing assessment of student skill development
